Merry Christmas!

Let us all remember in the midst of chaos and traditions, there is a higher meaning in this season.  This Christmas which for some of us is very different this year, but it is the same yesterday, today and forever.

"'8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. 12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and goodwill towards men.'"
"...And that's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."

Merry Christmas to Everyone!

Fun Food Friday 12/14/12

So something came to my attention on Friday.  I have not been in the best of mindsets electronically.   I have my bad days and my good days.  Yesterday I made huge progress.  I didn't run screaming from the building when there was a baby in the room.  About 1 month after Addison passed, I ran from the library because someone had a newborn in there.  It was almost involuntary.  So, what came to my attention on Friday?  I didn't realize how many people still look forward to my FFF posts until Friday night I had a couple of different people call to see what we did for FFF.  I will be getting back to my blogging more frequently very soon.  Still trying to figure out how I'm moving through my grief.  What I know is that God is carrying me through, He keeps me standing on two feet and is teaching me what this whole process was for.  So, FFF, our main dish was absolutely heavenly and I'll probably put it in my personal cookbook that I'm compiling.  It was Pesto Chicken Mac 'n Cheese.  Basically it is adult mac and cheese.  What I want to know is, do you guys prefer me to post the recipe or not.  Let me know.  Our dessert was Egg Nog Pound cake  oh my, definitely one you will want to try for Christmas.  Super good.   Our movie was 101 Dalmatians.  The princess begged for a dog movie.  It's definitely been a challenge setting up the air mattresses for FFF with the Christmas tree set up, but we had a blast.  Hope you enjoyed and that you'll join me with your own FFF.  All for now.

One Month in Heaven

One Month.  Where are we?  Yesterday Addison would have been 1 month.  Today she is 1 month in Heaven.  Confused is probably the best word to describe where we are.  Some days are good and some are very sad.  Different things can trigger a sad day.  My three kiddos definitely keep me hoppin'.  We have definitely learned that grief is so different for everybody and what it truly is.  The hubby and I are in different places in our grief, but we are both hanging on the promises of God.  I really have no idea how someone could go through this without God!  He is my strength, my hope, my comfort and my peace.  Over the last couple of weeks, I have found comfort in these lyrics:
Even though the journey's long
And I know the road is hard
Well, the One who's gone before me
He will help me carry on
After all that I've been through
Now I realize the truth
That I must go through the valley
To stand upon the mountain of God.

All for now.

In Memory of Addison Grace

My heart is broken.  We are resting in God's arms right now.  He is carrying us through, day by day.  Addison Grace came all on her own at 37 weeks. She was born October 11, 2012 at 9:27 p.m.  She weighed 5 lbs. 1 oz. and was 18 1/4 in. long.  She was absolutely beautiful and was our little miracle for 24 hours.  She was  definitely a little fighter.  She passed away on October 12, 2012 at 9:27 p.m. with mommy and daddy's arms wrapped around her.  She is in the arms of Jesus now.  She is at peace and has gone home.  Please continue to pray for our family during this difficult time.  We are so very grateful for all the support and prayers that we received throughout this process.

Soccer and sickness!

We had a rough weekend last weekend.  The princess woke up not feeling well on Saturday and it got progressively worse with she and I getting absolutely no sleep Saturday night.  In the midst of all of that, the boys had their first soccer game of the season.  Unfortunately we felt like crazy people running from field to field since their games were back to back.  It was all worth it, they both won, 2-1 on both.  Here are some of my favorite shots from this weekend.  I hope you enjoy.  All for now.

Ultrasound Update

Well, the doctor didn't have much to say.  They're still so unsure of everything because of the fact we didn't get an amniocentesis.  The ultrasound techs measured little Miss Addison and got a kick out of how active she is.  They could see a little of her hair floating around already.  They also said that she is also practicing her breathing already.  Amazing what they can see.  They estimated her weight now at almost 4 lbs, about 3 lbs 12 oz.  Her heart, stomach, lungs, kidneys and spine still look great.  Still very unsure about the excess fluid and space around her brain.  We've already spoken to a neonatologist who is awesome and he feels that the best course of action is to wait until Addison is born, assess her and see what she needs and go from there.  My official due date is Halloween.  We are still so unsure of the future, but we are trusting in God for whatever is before us.  We are constantly praying for Addison everyday that we will be able to bring her home, especially with all of the encouraging news about her heart, lung, kidneys and stomach looking great.  Please continue to pray for us as we continue in this process.

All for now.

Crazy August!!!!

I feel like this is a repeat of last August.  I think that's the way it goes in this house.  With 3 different doctor appointments this week alone, I feel like maybe I can finally sit down and give you an update on the Frisk family.  We started the month slowly, but it has been a whirlwind since Big Man's birthday on the 6th.  He turned 8 years old this year.

It's quite crazy how time has flown.  That very same day, after all the celebration, we left for vacation.  The hubby decided we would check out the Creation Museum (near Cincinnati), Cleveland, Ohio, Lake Erie and Erie, Pennsylvania.  We wanted to include and do as much as possible with Addison, even if she is still in the belly.  Such a crazy but fun trip.  We had such a blast.  I have to admit; I was a little skeptical that the Great Lakes could look like the beach, but it's true.  Although, I still prefer the beach and my salty sea air.  We made our way down through West Virginia (found an outlet mall along the way) and headed home.

The very next week, Papa and Nina came for a visit and oh the week flew by.  It seemed so incredibly short.  They were awesome and watched the kiddos for one of my many doctor appointments.  Can't wait for them to come back in October.  When they left, it was back to work for hubby, but he had to go to Nashville, TN for some training, so we tagged along.  Another fun trip.  We got to go to the Adventure Science Center and meet up with our very best friends (practically family).

We didn't really settle back down when we got home.  We jumped right back into school, but have crammed 3 doctor appointments into this one week and soccer starts on Saturday.  And both boys are doing it this year.  Whew!  I will continue to keep you updated on everything that is going on, including our next appointment with Addison.  All for now!

Update on Addison

Well, last Tuesday we went in for another ultrasound.  We didn't really learn anything new, except for the fact that she is growing like she is supposed to.  As of last Tuesday, they estimated her weight at 2 lbs 1 oz.  The doctor actually said she has a beautiful heart, which is oh so encouraging.  We are praising God for that.  Since I refused the amniocentesis they cannot really give us much more information than we are still looking at the brain anomaly.  I also won't have to go back for six more weeks instead of four.  Please continue to pray for her and for us.  It's still amazing to me that they asked again if we were continuing this pregnancy.  I am now entering the third trimester.  We will be talking to the neonatologists very soon to discuss with them how much care we would like Addison to receive after birth.  Of course,  since none of us really know how she will be when she is born, we all  want to be on the same page.  As I sit and type she has the hiccups and with all of her moving and kicking all the time, it just seems so unreal that something could be wrong (especially with how big she is getting).  Please continue to pray and I will update you soon.  Thank you for all your prayers.

Week in Review: Homeschool Success

Well, we started homeschool back up this week, and, I have to say, it was quite a success.  Despite the interruptions of a doctor visit due to poison ivy, a modem crash and our internet being out for a little bit, among other things, it went quite well.  We had a blast and started it out with lots of neat new projects.  We've been homeschooling now for a couple of years and always look forward to a brand new year.  Big Man is in 3rd grade this year, Goose is in 1st  and of course,  the Princess has to be included so I do some preschool stuff with her.  She doesn't let me forget about her school time. ;P.  You're probably wondering, "Why start so early?"  This year we are planning for the unknown of October.  Miss Addison Grace is due on my birthday and, of course, we're not sure how this birth is going to go.  We took lots of pictures (of course, hello, photographer ;P) so to make sure to remember it all.  We did everything from making dried fruit to learning (what my kiddos thought) was the longest memory verse ever.  We started some lapbooks for History and Geography and read together..... a lot :).  I even learned from Goose during a review of History that the explorer who circumnavigated the globe in 1522 was named Magello.  Looking forward to another fun week of homeschooling with I'm sure some more interruptions.  We just roll with it.  We will be seeing Addison this week since we have another ultrasound coming up.  I'll make sure to post an update of our process and how we are doing.  As most of you know, photography has been a large part of my life for a very long time, so I have a few things going on in that area as well.  I do not push that area as much though since God has called me to homeschool and teach my kiddos, but I do love picking up a few jobs here and there every now and then.  I have some pics from this week that I will share and I will make sure to post an update on Addison.  Please continue to pray for her and us as well.  For now, I'll leave you with a little video of a silly little girl.  All for now.

My Little Princess

I finally just sat down and finished the Princess's dress.  Last week we were strolling around Walmart and I saw some cute fabric so I told the Princess I would make her a dress.  Which was a bad idea because as soon as we got home she started asking for it.  Well, I haven't really had the time to work on it this week.  We've been quite busy.  So I set aside a little time today and finished it.  Of course, I barely got the last button on when she was begging for me to put it on her.  Here is the princess in her new dress.

Relaxing and Praising God for Encouraging Moments (update on Addison Grace)

Tues was another ultrasound.  I reached 23 weeks on Tues.  Praise God that Miss Addison is measuring exactly where she is supposed to.  They estimated her weight at 1 lb 2 oz.  They did a detailed check of her heart this time and found no major issues.  Praise God.  They told me her stomach looks fine, her bladder looks fine, her umbilical cord looks fine, but still the doctor is not giving us any word that she will survive.  It doesn't matter.  We were so encouraged by the visit and getting to see her.  The only thing we really haven't seen yet is a good image of her face.  She will not put her hands down.  The ultrasound techs get a kick out of her though at every appointment.  She's always all over the place and moving like crazy and kicking them.  This time she even had her little legs crossed at the ankles and looked like she was relaxing.  Please, please continue to pray as we continue in this process and we will keep you updated with every appt.

The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything

During the summer, we usually take a little reprieve from homeschool, doing just a few academic things, but mainly, fun, summer reading, and spending time outside.  Today the kiddos decided they wanted to be pirates.  They made themselves some telescopes and asked if we could make some pirate hats.  So we did.  When I asked what their pirate names were, they said they were the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything (you can tell what they like to watch).  Here are some pics of today's fun.

Update on Addison Grace

Nothing really new to report.  I got to see my regular OB today for the first time since Addison was diagnosed with T13.  She was super supportive and asked us what our wishes are for Addison.  So far she is growing right on target and her heart rate was great.  We are so appreciative of all of your prayers and ask that you please continue as we are progressing.  We will continue to update you on our journey.  All for now.

Addison Grace

As many of you know, James and I are expecting #4.  So far it has been an easy pregnancy, nothing to really complain about.  Two weeks ago our world was turned upside down.  Something abnormal in my blood results required us to go in for a high resolution ultrasound.  The doctor then gave us the news that no parent ever expects to hear,  our baby has Trisomy 13.  The doctor actually apologized having to give us this news and also a little surprised himself with us already having 3 healthy kiddos.  Trisomy 13 is a rare chromosomal abnormality that affects 1 in 16,000 babies and is caused by a completely random mutation at conception and is not inherited.  You never expect to hear that you have become the rarity.  He explained that we needed to have an amniocentesis to confirm, but we refused, not wanting to put the baby at any more risk.  In all of recent ultrasounds we have found out that we are having a little girl.  We have decided to name her Addison Grace.  So you're probably wondering exactly what this means.  Trisomy 13 is a condition that is labeled "incompatible with life".  Basically the doctor told us that if Addison makes it to term, we will not be taking her home, she will not survive long after birth.  The doctor as us if terminating was an option and we said absolutely not and we will let God decide when to take Addison.  James and I want all of you to know that the last two weeks have been insanely hard.  We've had our good days and our very bad days.  Somedays it really hits me that I may never bring my baby girl home, but we have 3 blessings that keep us going.  While we continue to pray everyday for Addison and for a miracle, we both are at peace with whatever God's will is with our baby girl.  Although this is random and rare, God's is drawing us closer to Him and we know that this is part of His plan for our lives.  We appreciate all the prayers that we have been receiving and we ask that you all continue to pray for our family and little Addison.  I am encouraged everytime I see her on the ultrasound, she's a feisty one.  They're always having to chase her down.  She is measuring quite well too for a T13 baby and her heart rate is good.  As I have been reading a few stories of people in our situation, I feel that it is necessary to say:

Please DON'T:
Assume you know how we're feeling or doing
Try to take this on as your situation
Call us with condolences, Addison is still moving and kicking.  If you would like to express something, email is fine.

Please DO:
Pray for us
Ask any questions you like, please don't walk on eggshells around us.  We are ok and resting in God's peace
Phil. 4: 6-7
Thank you so much for your prayers and thoughts.  We will continue to update everyone as we go through this process.

Love, James and Erica Frisk

Fun Food Friday

Whew, what a day we had yesterday.  Our meal for Fun Food Friday was Baked Shrimp with Stuffing and Roasted Asparagus and Lemon Meringue Pudding for dessert.  Luckily for us, our dessert required refrigeration for a few hours so we did that one earlier in the day.  But, we had to duck and cover in the basement before we could start dinner because of the storms yesterday.  It got bad for a few minutes, but then it calmed down and we headed back up to start dinner.  I was pretty glad at this point.  I thought the children were going to turn into cannibals at one point; gnawing each other's arms off. :P.  Tonight's dinner was not cheap, but, holy cow, was it wonderful.  Super simple too.  It only had 5 ingredients, shrimp, chicken flavored stuffing mix, butter, garlic clove and asparagus.  If you guys would like the full recipes just let me know and I will email them out.  The Lemon Meringue Pudding went perfect with the shrimp meal too.  SO GOOD!  Here are a few pics from last night.
Not sure why his face is so dirty.

Stirring the pudding mixture

My egg yolks,  Big Man thought it was hilarious when I was teaching him why we must temp the egg yolks before adding them to the pudding mixture ;P

Pudding mixture done, ready for the meringue.

Isn't it beautiful ;P

Just out of the oven.

Best shrimp you'll ever eat

Look at my wonderful plate.
I hope you enjoyed and are enjoying your own FFF.  All for now.

What Works for Me Wednesday

Ok, so sorry I'm getting this out a little late.  We've had quite a week.  So this week I wanted to talk about the importance of a plan.  I am a list person.  I like to have my goals and to dos written down so I can know where I stand each day.  This also helps me tame the thousands of ideas rattling around in my brain constantly.  So if I have a reasonable amount of things written down and accomplish them, I then don't feel overwhelmed and I can also see what still needs to happen.  Having said all of that, I do not live and die by my lists.  I have three children.  I want to enjoy them.  I want to have fun with them.  But our decision to homeschool needs to be somewhat organized.  We need some sort of routine.  My schedule involves two sheets that I have created that works for my family, a monthly goal list and a week ahead list.  There are so many schedules and routines and goal lists and free printables out there on the web.  Take a little from here and a little from there and create something that works well for your family.  Here are a few links if you would like to get some ideas.
http://www.mommytracked.com/downloads
http://www.kristensguide.com/Printables/calendars.asp
http://www.thehomeschoolmom.com/gettingorganized/planner.php
Ok, I am not affiliated with any of these people or getting paid by them.  I just found them for you and posted them.  I also do not use any of these, they don't really work for my family.  If you would like to see my sheets to see if bits and pieces work for your family, just email me and I can email them to you.  I will point out that none of my homeschooling schedule is on these sheets.  I love and have been using for a couple of years now this wonderful program called Homeschool Tracker.  I keep up with all of my lesson plans, grades, attendance, everything.  Its wonderful.  I hope this post has some useful information for you.  Let me know how you're doing.  All for now.

Making it Matter on Monday

I've heard from several people how much they got from my Making it Matter on Monday post last week. So, I'm curious, did you guys find encouragement and enjoy my post last week about Making it Matter on Monday.  If so, please let me know and I will make it a regular weekly post.  Thanks so much to you all.

Sunday Scavenger Hunt

Sunday again.  Oh how I love Sundays, so very rejuvenating.  Especially after this week, it is welcomed.  This weeks prompts were Crossed, A Glimpse, Handwritten, Bliss and Gray.  So here are my interpretations of the week:
1. Crossed
This is what happens when you cross big man. ;P

2. A Glimpse
I peeked out the storm door to see Daddy comforting a hurt little man.

3. Handwritten
One of my weekly menu spots

4. Bliss
My coffee time is bliss, don't you love one of my valentine's gifts from my wonderful hubby.

5. Gray
One of my crafting tools.  My ironing board.  I absolutely love the abstract quality of this pic. Don't you.
All for now.
